Washington's last-ranked defense needs as much help as it can get, and the team's offense and kickoff and punt coverage units provided little early in Sunday's 33-30 loss to Dallas at Cowboys Stadium.
"We haven't really put a whole game together - offense, defense, special teams," cornerback Carlos Rogers said. "As you could see today, we couldn't really stop 'em first half. Then with special teams, they didn't give us no good field position.
"And ain't never seen our special teams, our kickoff teams or our punt teams, allow somebody to get down the field like that. You just don't see that from us."
The Cowboys returned the game's opening kickoff 38 yards, started their first drive at their 46-yard line and eventually kicked a 42-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead. On the Redskins' first possession, they ran three plays and punted, and Dallas returned the punt 31 yards.
Dallas began at Washington's 30-yard line and was stopped on fourth and goal at the 1-yard line. Quarterback Rex Grossman - who impressed overall in a four-touchdown performance during his first start since the 2008 season - threw an interception on the next possession, Dallas started at Washington's 27 and scored a touchdown to take a 10-0 lead.
"We usually don't have those types of problems" with their coverage teams, said outside linebacker Lorenzo Alexander, who also has played a major role this season on Washington's special team units. "Dallas kept getting great field position, and that makes it harder for the defense. But the bottom line is you just have to stop them and, obviously, we weren't able to do it enough."
